Pyxant Labs Inc.

Maurice Gaubatz
Founder, President & CEO

Maurice is an entrepreneur committed to building worthy value via capital enterprises, most especially at Pyxant Labs.

He joined the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas immediately after engineering school. Maurice filled roles in manufacturing operations, technology development and implementation, and competitive intelligence and innovation for certain of Dow’s operations expansions in Asia. His notable achievements included production records and elucidation of site integration economies which enabled accurate prediction of competitor entries and exits from markets and operational areas.

Maurice founded Pyxant Labs in 2000 and initiated the LC/MSMS best-in-class platform in 2002 with his partner, Dave Robaugh. With the Pyxant Labs team, he has demonstrated 28% compound revenue growth per annum.

Pyxant Labs and Maurice have won recognition including Colorado’s Celebrate Technology Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007.

Maurice is a B.S. Chemical Engineering graduate of Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Houston.

Dave Robaugh, Ph.D.
Vice President of Scientific Affairs

Dr. Robaugh is a scientist/entrepreneur committed to establishing Pyxant Labs as a first class contract research organization of the highest technical caliber. His business philosophy for success is to offer clients high-value analytical services by providing in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, and incisive problem solving and method development. He believes these qualities distinguish Pyxant Labs from its competitors.

Dr. Robaugh joined Pyxant Labs in August 2002 with the purpose of building a best-in-class mass spectrometric platform for both the bioanalytical and agrochemical spaces. With this success, he continues to support and participates as an advisor in all technical efforts at Pyxant Labs. Over the past year, Dr. Robaugh also has expanded his role and now develops and directs new commercial development programs including our macromolecule initiative. This program is intended to develop Pyxant Labs capabilities for the analysis of large high-molecular weight biopharmaceuticals and nucleic acid therapeutics, such as antisense oligonucleotides. Dr Robaugh continues to explore new opportunities and to expand our mass spectrometric platform and associated capabilities.

Before joining Pyxant Labs Dr. Robaugh was President and founder of Robaugh and Associates, a bioanalytical consulting firm from 1999 to 2002. From 1985 to 1999 he held Group Leader, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist positions at Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City where he specialized in applications of new mass spectrometric techniques to the solution of a wide range of problems in the pharmaceutical, environmental, and agrochemical businesses. During his tenure at MRI, Dr. Robaugh’s most notable achievements were the development and construction of specialized interfaces for LC/MS-MS and molecular beam mass spectrometers. These novel mass spectrometers were successfully employed to investigate the unusual chemistry of the Antarctic ozone hole through laser photolysis of ClO dimers. Very high molecular weight condensation clusters were also discovered by time-of-flight mass spectrometry which may contribute to ozone depletion at very low temperatures. These same instruments were utilized to investigate the chemistry and kinetics of incineration at very high temperatures in real time such as alkali metal evolution in cool combustion and soot particle sorption effects in municipal incinerators. He was elected to MRI’s Council of Principal Scientists in 1992.

Dr. Robaugh started his career as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the Center for Chemical Physics from 1981 to 1983 and continued his employment as a Contract Research Chemist from 1983 to 1985. At NIST Dr Robaugh studied the kinetics and thermochemistry of various high temperature thermal reactions by construction and application of a novel heated shock-tube.

Dr Robaugh received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from West Virginia University in 1982 where his dissertation and research was focused on the kinetics and thermochemistry of arenes using very-low pressure pyrolysis mass spectrometry. He received his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry at California State University of Pennsylvania in 1977.
